It’s been a few years now since mom gave me the shoebox with your pictures and letters from your time as an army photographer in Japan. I had no idea of the atrocities you had seen there.
I explored what this war means to my generation and how it is perhaps still present. I travelled to Okinawa, a small Japanese island still ‘occupied’ by American troops, to make the legacy that we carry visible. To commemorate and see what we never really saw.
